LEEA is a 2019 Association Excellence Awards finalist
LEEA has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 Association Excellence Awards in the category of ‘Best Learning and Professional Development Programme’. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in London, 11 October.
Prior to 2016, LEEA offered a correspondence training programme in five disciplines to its members worldwide. While not accredited the courses were recognised as the industry standard for qualifications in the examination and inspection of in-service lifting equipment for over 50 years.
In 2016, the LEEA Academy was launched. A team of five Training Specialists spent 7-years writing new courses that could be delivered online using an LMS (Learning Management System) platform, either on-site at a members premises, at our national training school in Huntingdon or as a Combined Member Training Event. This is an instructor led training course facilitated by LEEA in any country to benefit members with smaller numbers of staff to train, allowing them to join a combined course at lower costs, but providing regional access to face-to-face learning as an option, which previously was unavailable.
The online courses have offered members the benefits of convenience, working at their own pace and availability from any Internet access point. Many members have employees working in the Oil & Gas sector. Because they often work remotely, the LMS has given them the opportunity to study whilst being away from home for lengthy periods. They will then choose a date for their assessment when they are next available.
LEEA has now established eight advanced programme training courses, each of which lead to a LEEA qualification; accredited by City & Guilds and CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). Our training courses and qualifications are the industry benchmark and considered by end users to be the only recognised standard for lifting equipment inspectors, worldwide.
In 2009, LEEA delivered just four training courses to our members worldwide resulting in 14 days of face-to-face delivery. In 2019, our forecast is 850 days of face-to-face training worldwide. We will have issued over 1000 qualifications to our members employees worldwide.
We have established partnerships and national occupational standards with many governments and blue chip companies globally. LEEA training and qualifications have been mandated into occupational requirements and demanded by end users for lifting equipment inspectors on their sites.
Qualified personnel hold a LEEA TEAM Card. Recognised and endorsed by CSCS, this card is linked to the Association’s Advanced Programme Assessment scheme. The TEAM card provides evidence of identity and qualifications and is only available to Advanced Programme qualified lifting equipment technicians and engineers working for LEEA full and development member companies. The card has a 3-year validity period, at the end of which the cardholder is invited to complete an online CPD (Continuing Professional Development) refresher course for each qualification they hold. On successful completion of each course, a new TEAM card will be sent to the individual with a validity of a further 3-years. It is the view of LEEA that currency of an inspector’s core competencies and knowledge remains current. CPD is therefore compulsory.
Our LMS online platform delivered over 1200 training course globally in 2018 and our average monthly course enrolment is now 80 per month. We also delivered over 2000 TEAM Card refresher courses in 2018.
Our students are recognised every year at our annual awards ceremony. We award those who achieved the best assessment paper in each qualification category, and for the best overall advanced programme student. This is highly regarded by our members worldwide.
In 2019 we will deliver 18 combined training events in the following countries: Canada, UAE, Indonesia, Trinidad & Tobago, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Feedback received from members in regard to instructor-led training continues to demonstrate that we are offering high-quality training and pursuing our goals for continual improvement.
Our established standard operating procedures continue to be updated whenever the need occurs and we will continue to seek continual improvement in all aspects of our training delivery. Our past ISO9001 audits from BSi have been free of non-conformances or improvement recommendations.
