
Working with industry in South East Asia
LEEA held a Southeast Asia Regional Event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 27th Feb 2025, which attracted 70 attendees from around 35 companies, comprising members and non-members.
LEEA’s Southeast Asia Regional Manager William Ng opened with an update on current and future activities within the region and welcomed guests of honour Puan Noor Asriah, Head of Lifting Machinery from the Malaysia Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Encik Wan Hilemi, Head of Certification Unit.
Ng had met with DOSH in December 2024 to explain how LEEA can be a major help towards improving safe lifting in Malaysian industry. In addition to working together on supporting events in lifting safety, LEEA and DOSH Malaysia will assist in the development of code of practices and skills.
The Regional Event in Kuala Lumpur also featured a number of guest speakers. Ben Burgess from William Hackett talked about ‘Product Specification For Offshore Lifting Applications’, Stuart Glennie from Kito Crosby talked about ‘The use of Innovation & Technology within the Lifting & Rigging Industry’ and Lt Colonel Frank Tan, Founder of ISO Group, discussed ‘Crane Lifting Planning using Software and Simulation’.
LEEA Regional Managers from UK, Jack Croswell; Middle East, Amro Hassan; and Australia/New Zealand, Justin Boehm presented updates and activities within their respective regions. This was followed by Matt Barber, LEEA’s Director of Membership explaining recent Association improvements. He also took the opportunity to promote Global Lifting Awareness Day (GLAD), which takes place on 12th June 2025.
Prior to this event LEEA participated in EIC Connect Energy Borneo, in Kuching Malaysia. The exhibition, which took place on the 25th and 26th Feb 2025 at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre, connects industrial leaders and suppliers in the energy market of Borneo Region including Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Indonesia. LEEA was able to promote its mission and competency to the Borneo audience in addition to listening to their lifting-related requirements.
