The Future of LOLER: A Call for Member Consultation

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) was established to ensure the safety and reliability of lifting equipment used in workplaces across the UK. These regulations place legal responsibilities on employers, requiring them to ensure that lifting equipment is properly installed, maintained, and used safely.

LOLER is critical because it helps prevent accidents, protects workers from injury, and ensures compliance with essential safety standards. Whether you operate cranes, hoists, or any other lifting equipment, adherence to LOLER safeguards businesses from costly incidents and legal repercussions.

LOLER  is under review as part of a wider government drive to reduce regulatory burdens, including environmental protection laws that are deemed to have added cost and delays to house-building and infrastructure projects.

As we review LOLER, member contributions are crucial to shaping practical, effective policies that support safety and compliance across all business sizes.

How You Can Get Involved

To ensure broad participation, we are organising an Expert LOLER group and we invite you join and have your say. This is  where members can share insights, raise concerns, and contribute to the discussion to help shape regulations. We are also looking to arrange in-person meetings for deeper collaboration.

As part of this consultation, we are committed to:

  • Monthly Reports: Regular updates to the technical team on standards and legislation.
  • HSE Collaboration: Inviting HSE representatives to technical working group discussions once our position is formulated.
  • Informative Resources: Providing materials to support members in understanding and preparing for upcoming changes.Be part of the expert LOLER Group

Register your interest to participate by completing this form.
