LIVE at LiftEx 2024 CMCO
As part of LEEA’s Be my Guest series, Jenny Eagle, reporter for LEEA chats to exhibitor Andy Dowell, business development manager, Columbus McKinnon Corporation at LiftEx 2024 at London Olympia (October 16,17, 2024).
On display was the BatteryStar industrial hoist, the result of a collaboration between CMCO and Milwaukee in the United States.
“It’s the first 1-ton industrial hoist on the market. It uses Milwaukee Tool’s M18 Redlithium Battery, compatible with 250 of Milwaukee’s hand tools,” said Dowell.
“You pair the hoist to the handset in the same way as you would with your car or your phone, with a full battery charge this hoist will lift 46 metres, for a quarter ton 155 metres, for half a ton 90 metres.
“It’s very universal as it combines the advantages of a manual chain hoist with a power chain hoist. So, you have all the portability and lightweight features that you get with this product but the mechanical efficiency and productive capacity of a power hoist.
“The big advantage of this product is that it has proportional speed control so if you are lifting a heavy pay load or an expensive pay load you can literally place it precisely where it needs to be. This particular model is configured as a 6-metre height of lift chain hoist and weighs barely 22 kilos compared with our Lodestar product that weighs 56 kilos so its massively portable and massively flexible.”
