An important and energising moment for LEEA in South East Asia
The newly formed LEEA South East Asia Regional Council convened in May, with Alex Lew of Franklin Offshore Pte Ltd appointed as Chair, supported by LEEA’s Regional Manager – South East Asia & Asia Wee Learn NG, CEO Ross Moloney and Director of Membership Matt Barber – alongside a group of council members represent the strength and diversity of the lifting industry across the region.
Matt Barber said: “Thank you to all our council members for your time, insights, and commitment. This marks a major step forward in building a stronger, more connected lifting industry in South East Asia. Our discussions centred around two key priorities: the need for greater recognition of LEEA by regulators and governments, and the importance of making high-quality, localised training more accessible throughout the region.”
This is the third LEEA regional council, following the successful models in the Middle East and Australia and New Zealand.
“This council will play a vital role in shaping that future - championing safety, raising standards, and building capability for the long term,” said LEEA’s Matt Barber.
In attendance were Lt. Colonel Associate (CD) Frank Tan TVET Instructor, CLP (accred. ASME, LEEA); Ts. Dr. Mazlan Shah, PhD, directors at DNV Malaysia; Rony Prayitno Simeon; and Offshore Engineer Farhan Hussin.
