Fulfilling first quarter for LEEA in Southeast Asia
It was an eventful and fulfilling close to the first quarter of 2026, writes Wee Learn Ng, LEEA Regional Manager – Southeast Asia & APAC. We began March with our Southeast Asia Annual Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur (pictured above), where it was a pleasure to reconnect with fellow Council Members — Adrian Ng, ADAM ZAKARIA, Khin Aung Zaw, Colonel Associate (CD) Frank Tan Frank Tan, Crane Lifting Planner (ASME, LEEA), Romel Cuison, Rony Prayitno Simeon and Wei Jin Lai.
The session was highly productive, with meaningful discussions and shared perspectives focused on advancing lifting safety and strengthening industry standards across the region.
We were also delighted to host Matthew Barber, LEEA Director of Membership, who shared exciting updates on key initiatives, including the Annual Member Assessment, Technical Consultations, Licensed Training Partner (LTP) programme, and COPSULE (Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment).
While in Kuala Lumpur, I had the opportunity to engage with valued industry partners from Chris Fenton, PhD and Kalidasan Angappan from Gamuda Engineering, Prem from Prem Holdings, Mohammad Azmir Bakar & Zul from ITS Inspection Technical Solutions, and Joshua Janda from Ocean Vantage in strengthening relationships and exploring further collaboration opportunities.

Mid-March took us to Singapore for a productive discussion with The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), where we explored potential collaboration on training initiatives for lifting equipment with Jason Oh, Jaime Lim, Bernard Kwok, Andy Ong, Charles Tan and Alex Lew.
Towards the end of the month, I attended OTC Asia 2026 and APM 2026. My sincere thanks to all friends, colleagues, and partners who took the time to connect—your insights and conversations are always appreciated.
