Empowering Safety Through Training: LEEA Member Event at Rigspek, Batam
LEEA recently delivered a successful Combined Member Training Event at Rigspek, a respected provider of industrial services and lifting solutions based in Batam, Indonesia. Known for its commitment to safety and technical excellence, Rigspek proved to be an ideal host for this two-week programme, which brought together regional members and individual trainees for hands-on, instructor-led learning.
The training took place across two sessions: the Foundation Certificate course ran from 24th to 26th June 2025, followed by the Lifting Accessories Certificate from 30th June to 4th July 2025. Both courses were led by LEEA-accredited trainer Ryan Hillyer, who praised the facilities and the enthusiasm of the participants. Seventeen attendees joined the Foundation course, while three took part in the more advanced Lifting Accessories training.
The Foundation Certificate is designed for beginners offered a comprehensive introduction to lifting operations, focusing on the importance of safe behaviours, legal responsibilities, and risk mitigation. Through scenario-based case studies, students explored not only their own responsibilities but also the obligations of peers and management in maintaining a safe working environment. The course also covered lifting equipment in detail, distinguishing between accessories and appliances and demonstrating their correct usage.
The Lifting Accessories Certificate, part of LEEA’s Diploma pathway, provided a deeper dive into inspection criteria and examination techniques. Participants learned how to carry out thorough inspections using the correct tools and equipment, and gained insight into the manufacturing and identification of lifting accessories. A key focus was placed on discard criteria—understanding how damage occurs and why compromised equipment must be removed from service.
Reflecting on the event, Ryan Hillyer said: “I’m always thankful to travel to different parts of the world—and even better to see that people share the same safety values we do. Rigspek provided excellent facilities and a warm welcome throughout the two weeks.”
One of the participants, Ignatius Apryando Manalu, NDT Project Coordinator, shared his appreciation: “I’m truly grateful to have completed and passed the LEEA Foundation, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Ryan Hillyer for the guidance, knowledge, and valuable experience shared during the training. This course has strengthened my understanding of lifting safety and instilled key values such as competence, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safety. I’m now motivated to continue my development by enrolling in the next LEEA Diploma levels.”
