The eLearning pathway to career development and best practice
Matt Barber, LEEA’s Director of Membership, explains why the advantages of eLearning make it popular training pathway for the development of members’ new and existing staff.
Offering many important advantages, LEEA’s eLearning training pathway provides the ultimate flexibility, allowing learners to access training on demand, at any time and in any country. Designed for self-paced study, the format enables professionals to develop their knowledge without time constraints or location restrictions.
This makes eLearning an increasingly popular channel among the high quality training that LEEA offers members to nurture the skills, professionalism, expertise and diligence of their staff when working in our specialised, safety critical industry.
Training is an essential ingredient of LEEA’s mission to educate, influence and enable so that best practice is everyday action. Through this, we aim to make happen our vision of the elimination of accidents, injuries and fatalities in lifting and height safety industries.
Thanks to LEEA’s state-of-the-art training facilities, expert trainers and global network of training partners, we can offer world-class training courses in a variety of ways, which means trainees can learn in the way that suits them best.
Options start with in-person training, either at LEEA’s purpose built Huntingdon Training Centre or at the member company’s location or nearby venue. There are also Combined Member Training Events in different countries and a recent development is delivering LEEA training to members in key areas around the world via LEEA Training Partners.
Then there are the digital training options. These include virtual classrooms, which bring the learning experience to life through an interactive environment online, where trainers and learners can communicate, collaborate and engage with LEEA course content in real time.
A new look at eLearning
All of LEEA’s broad range of training courses are available via eLearning pathway, which is accessible globally and in multiple languages to suit a diverse workforce. Courses are not restricted to defined term times and can be commenced whenever it suits an individual. With 24/7 availability, learners can progress at their own pace. A 12-month course completion window ensures learners have ample time to work through materials alongside their existing commitments. Structured modules enable learners to revisit key concepts as needed, reinforcing understanding and application.
LEEA believes that digital technology has changed the way we serve the membership for the better. Our interconnected world makes training less of a challenge, and many are already looking to eLearning for continuity of education, training and productivity. In fact, eLearning was an established and important delivery method for LEEA’s training pre-Covid. Traditionally LEEA’s lowest cost, most flexible and convenient training option, eLearning was able to step up to become an essential tool to help the global lifting industry mitigate disruption during the pandemic, allowing the journey to raise standards to continue and changing attitudes towards this form of training significantly.
Substantial investment in technology at LEEA’s Huntingdon training centre, turned eLearning into a real option for trainees. All they need is Internet access on a PC, laptop or tablet. Course materials are available to download and an assessment venue and date can be chosen to suit. The platform has an offline study capability with auto-sync updates once back online. Any new qualifications are updated on LEEA’s ‘smart’ TEAM Card, which provides instantly verifiable data when required.
Benefits for new and old
LEEA’s eLearning, as with all of our training pathways, substantiates the Association’s status as a global benchmark and reflects our determination to raise standards worldwide. It can also be a crucial element in recruitment, helping members to support the development of their staff through a career progression pathway. In addition to providing encouragement to new staff, eLearning can upskill existing personnel to develop their knowledge, skills and professional behaviours. For members with staff already holding a Foundation Certificate, LEEA offers a portfolio of advanced courses to further their training.
Trained staff are an asset. Every learner wants to evolve their career and LEEA can deliver what its members need to advance their progression. And while on that journey they will add enormous value to their customers, in addition to being laser-focused on best practice in their field. For employers, the benefit will show up on the bottom line. For the Lifting Industry, training nurtures professionalism, expertise and diligence when it comes to working in safety.
