LEEA training: best choice for competence in lifting careers
LEEA training is the best choice for anybody who wants to be competent in their lifting career, as Peter Ezzat Zaki Gayed, winner of the Cyril McCaully Memorial Prize for LEEA’s Bridge and Gantry Cranes (BGC) course in 2024, found.
“My ambition is to become a top-tier technical manager with global expertise,” says Peter Ezzat Zaki Gayed, Lifting Department Manager at NAYA for Engineering Services & Training, who completed LEEA’s Bridge and Gantry Cranes (BGC) Diploma in September 2024, winning the Cyril McCaully Memorial Prize. “LEEA courses provide essential frameworks as a guidance for the correct and easiest way to apply international standards – and I hope that LEEA can expand to issue new courses to include other types of lifting equipment. LEEA is the best choice for anybody who wants to be competent in their lifting career. It gives you all the necessary information that you need to make the right decisions on site. Also, carrying more LEEA certificates allows you to get the best offers within the lifting career market.”
Peter adds the BGC diploma – which is essential for anyone engaged in the testing, inspection, examination and repair / maintenance of bridge and gantry cranes – to five other parts of LEEA training he has gained: the Foundation Certificate (FOU), achieved in May 2013 followed by Lifting Accessories in February 2014 then Manual Lifting Machines in May 2014, Mobile Cranes in May 2019 and Offshore Containers in November 2015. In addition to this impressive array of qualifications, Peter recently commenced the Powered Lifting Machines course.
“Before starting LEEA courses, I encountered many questions without satisfying answers, which subsequently clarified with ease during the course of my studies,” he says. “As a result, my professional confidence has significantly increased and I have enhanced competence in my decision-making abilities.”
Peter’s background is in mechanical engineering, studying this subject at university in Egypt in 2007. After graduating, he immediately started to seek a suitable job opportunity. “I found a vacancy as a Lifting Inspector. At that time a lifting career was still new in Egypt, and the companies that were working in this sector were limited. I recognised, however, that it was a significant opportunity to establish myself early in a potentially high-growth career.”
It proved to be a very wise move and now Peter is lifting his career and building his future. Having started in lifting directly after graduation, firstly as a Lifting Inspector, his career progression continued as he became a Senior Lifting Inspector and then gained his current role. NAYA for Engineering Services & Training is a leading company specialising in Trade and Engineering services including inspection, testing & calibration, training and qualifying, counselling and services for all industrial fields, including petroleum, in Arab countries.
In the important role of Lifting Department Manager, which he started 3-years ago, Peter is responsible for the management of all lifting activities in NAYA lifting department, including all types of lifting equipment examination and lifting training courses.
Offering his advice to anybody considering working in the Lifting Industry, Peter says: “The Lifting Industry is one of the best choices. Working in this industry requires special skills in a variety of engineering fields such as mechanics, electrics, civil engineering and many other aspects. This encourages the development of extensive expertise and competence. Additionally, professionals in this field often possess the critical authority to approve or reject lifting equipment after thorough examination on-site. I strongly recommend this career to those who are considering a career with long-term stability and continuous advancement.”
