Be my Guest: LEEA new directors LiftEx 2024
LEEA recently appointed three new directors to the association: Matt Barber, director of Membership, Ian Cook, director of Academy and Alex Beltrao director of Compliance.
As they were attending LiftEx for the first time, at London Olympia, Jenny Eagle took the opportunity to chat to them at the show to let members know what plans they have for 2025.
“My role is very much to grow our global membership base, but more importantly, enhance the value that our members receive from being part of the LEEA community. We obviously have members across the world, spanning from the UK, across to the west towards West Indies, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia and New Zealand,” said Barber.
“What's great to see by being here at LiftEx is the amount of people that have come along, the amount of exhibitors we have, and the key support we've had from our sponsors to ensure LEEA's message of driving safety and ensuring we're eliminating accidents and injury wherever possible, is truly committed to by all of our members.
“Moving forward, what we are looking to achieve within our membership base, and what we're looking to support our members with, is creating more engagement opportunities for us to be able to listen to our members. They are at the forefront of our industry. They are in this industry day in, day out, and we need to ensure that we're creating an environment that we can listen to them so we can continually improve our training, our technical aspect, to ensure we continue to push and advance the industry forward. I look forward to meeting everyone as soon as possible. I will be travelling around a lot, so I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in due course.”
As director of the Academy, Cook’s role is to look after LEEA’s academy courses and work with members in delivering training to their staff and individual learners that wish to study directly with LEEA.
“One of the things I'm really keen to do is continually evolve our assessments to make sure they're fit for purpose and reflect the vocational needs of the learners, so making sure they have that real competency to go back to their jobs and be good at what they do,” he said.
“Liftex is really exciting for me, because it's my first show and it’s a chance for me to meet other member companies, learn a little bit more about what they do, and some of the technical details that they're very keen to tell me about and are interested to learn. So it's a really good opportunity for me to understand more about the industry that LEEA operates in.”
Beltrao is responsible for the technical side of the association.
“We develop the guidance documents that are the basis for the technical triage and the audits. So, everything that is technical comes from my team. The focus has been to engage more with the members, to get them more involved, so that these documents and the technical information that we have really reflects all our membership, and we are pretty much focusing on the members outside the UK,” he said
“We realize we have been pretty much UK-centric in the case of the association, and that's something we are trying to change by involving everyone in our processes, and hopefully that will be more interesting to for members. We will grow our membership and will become truly international in the future.”
