After Seven Years in the Army, I Found My Next Career in the Lifting Industry
Jamie Morris is a site engineer at JK Lifting Equipment. Before that, he had served in the British Army with 1st Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Army for seven years. In this case study, Jamie shared his story and his transition from the Army to the lifting industry and LEEA's Military Transition Scheme.
From the Army to JK Lifting Equipment
During his Army career, Jamie served as a warrior gunner and driver, then in the Sniper Platoon, before finishing his service in a Reconnaissance Platoon.
Those roles taught him teamwork, composure under pressure and a sense of responsibility for getting the job done safely.
After leaving the Army, Jamie joined JK Lifting Equipment, where he has spent the past two and a half years building a new career in the lifting industry.
Discovering LEEA's Military Transition Scheme
Working in the industry introduced Jamie to LEEA and its competency programmes, including the LEEA Military Transition Scheme. The scheme stood out to him straight away as a way to build on the skills and experience he gained in the Army within a civilian career.
Through the LEEA Military Transition Scheme, Jamie completed the LEEA Foundation Certificate, which gave him a solid understanding of the lifting industry and provided him with a recognised qualification to establish his career.
Continued Career Development
Since then, Jamie has continued to develop at JK Lifting Equipment and recently used his ELCAS funding to complete NVQ Diplomas in Lifting Supervision and Appointed Person.
Jamie said the chance to gain recognised qualifications made a huge difference to what could have been a difficult move into civilian life.
For Jamie, leaving the Army could have been a difficult transition, but gaining recognised qualifications and continuing to develop has made a huge difference.
A Foundation for the Future
Jamie's military skills have helped, but the lifting industry has also given him the chance to learn something completely new and progress.
The LEEA Military Transition Scheme was an important first step, turning seven years in the Army into the foundation for a new career. Jamie is proud of what he's achieved over the last two and a half years and looks forward to developing further in the industry.
