Addressing the Crane Association of New Zealand conference
Standards have always told our industry what good practice looks like. Soon, AI may start predicting what better practice could look like. That shift raises a genuine question for lifting: whose knowledge will shape the machines?
Speaking at the Crane Association of New Zealand conference in July, our Regional Manager – Justin Boehm, explored what this means for competence. Tomorrow's inspectors won't just need to understand lifting equipment and inspection requirements — they will need to understand the systems flagging defects, what data they’ve used and whether their recommendations hold up in the real world.
It is a reminder of why our MOU with Crane Association of New Zealand Inc. exists. Associations like LEEA and CANZ are positioned to bring together thought leadership and real-world experience, so global industry practice stays grounded in sound knowledge – not just fast technology. Our members are the foundation of that work. As the tools change, our commitment to their skills and competence doesn't.
