LEEA celebrates World Environment Day
In honour of World Environment Day today (June 5) LEEA chats to Melissa King Ruths, chief marketing officer, Kito Crosby, to talk about how the company integrates safety and sustainability into its daily operations.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. It is supported by many non-governmental organizations, businesses, government entities, and represents the primary United Nations outreach day supporting the environment.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host this year’s event, with a focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. Land restoration is a key pillar of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, which is critical to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ruths told us Kito Crosby uses recycled steel in its manufacturing and has 100% fossil free manufacturing in over 50% of its sites in Europe. It also has Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certificates in many of its sites, which are ISO 14001, the most recognised international standard for environmental systems.
“At Kito Crosby, safety is a core value and we approach sustainability in the same structured and systematic way we invest, assess, take action, and measure so that we can continuously improve our working environment as well as improve the environment beyond our facilities,” she said.
